The Niger State House of Assembly has passed a new bill, increasing the retirement age for academic staff.
The bill which was passed during a plenary session on Wednesday, increases the retirement age from 65 to 75 for professors.
The new retirement age bill was presented by the chairman of the Standing Committee on Education, Hon. Mohammed Sani Idris.
He claimed that the recommended age meets global standards and will help retain seasoned professionals. He also stated hat this new bill help improve the educational standards and quality in the state.
The assembly also approved the the Niger State Diaspora Agency Bill. Hon. Afiniki Eunice Dauda stated that the bill would improve the state’s engagement with communities in the diaspora.
