Smugglers lose big as Customs intercept Rolls Royce worth N905m, others in Ogun

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has listed a 2021 edition of Rolls Royce Ghost with a duty paid value of N905 million among contrabands with total paid value of N1.4 billion recently intercepted by its operatives in Ogun State
The Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Godwin Otunla, disclosed this at a news conference on Thursday in Idiroko, Ogun.
He expressed surprise at how the owner attempted to smuggle such a high-value car into the state, but he noted that investigations are ongoing.
He listed other items impounded from smugglers recently by operatives of the Command to include a Honda Accord car, seven truck of Foreign parboiled rice (4,424 bags of 50kg each), Cannabis Sativa (50 sacks and 1,936 parcels), used pneumatic tyres (105 pieces), used clothing (21 bales and 3 sacks),Premium Motor Spirit (6,400 litres) with total duty paid value of #1,401,531,923.95.
He added that the seizures represent a significant economic loss to smugglers.

“The seizures with a DPV of N1,401,531,923,95, represents a significant economic loss to the smugglers, but a huge gain to our national economy and security.
“In addition, the command also generated a total revenue of N45,054,191:00 in July, which is higher than the N35,327,852:00 recorded in the corresponding month in 2024. This represent a commendable increase of 27.47 per cent,” he said.

Otunla while comparing revenue generated between July 2024amd July 2025 noted that the seizure generated #45,054,191.00 in July 2025, a 27.47% increase from July 2024 which was #35,327,852.00.
Otunla said the illicit Illicit drugs seized from smugglers will be handed over to officials of to National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency for further investigation.
Otunla added that the Command has been working in synergy with other security agencies in compliance with the government directive and as part of the collective determination to safeguard public health, ensure national security, and protect the future of our youths from the devastating effects of hard drugs
He warned smugglers that Ogun I Command will not relent in combating smuggling.
