The Ogun State Government has announced that free entry to the newly renovated Olumo Rock Tourist Complex will end on Saturday, August 23, 2025.

The government cited safety concerns following an unprecedented surge in visitors.

In a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, the government expressed appreciation to residents, tourists, and visitors for the overwhelming turnout since the reopening of the historic site.

The influx, officials said, underscores the vision of Governor Dapo Abiodun to reposition Olumo Rock as a world-class tourism destination.

The free-entry initiative, introduced by Governor Abiodun, was designed to give residents and visitors the opportunity to rediscover the cultural and historical significance of Olumo Rock after its recent renovation.

According to the government, that objective has now been achieved, with thousands of people taking advantage of the policy.

However, the massive crowds also raised safety concerns. At peak moments, officials noted, the risk of overcrowding and potential stampede was only averted by the swift intervention of security personnel and on-site staff.

“In line with the government’s foremost duty to safeguard lives, His Excellency has directed that the free entry initiative will conclude on Saturday, 23rd August 2025. Normal access procedures will thereafter resume,” the statement read.

While regretting any inconvenience the change may cause, the government reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that all visitors enjoy a safe, memorable, and enriching experience at the Olumo Rock Tourist Complex.
