Leaders and stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday thronged the party’s national secretariat in Abuja for its 102nd National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
Among the big names already on ground are former Deputy National Chairman, Chief Olabode George, and ex-Minister of Information, Professor Jerry Gana.
The crucial session, scheduled for 2pm, is coming at a time the opposition party is intensifying moves to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement on its official X handle, the PDP disclosed that the meeting would deliberate on key matters, including the report of the zoning committee and preparations for the party’s national convention fixed for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The atmosphere at the secretariat was lively as members chanted solidarity songs and hailed arriving leaders.
According to the zoning arrangement adopted last week in Lagos, the South-West secured the National Secretary slot—already micro-zoned to Oyo State—while Akwa Ibom will produce the next National Publicity Secretary. The South-South and South-East also picked key NWC positions, with governors in the regions playing active roles in the sharing formula.
The 102nd NEC comes with the tenure of the current acting National Working Committee, led by Ambassador Umar Damagum, set to expire in December. To avoid a leadership vacuum, the 101st NEC had in July approved the November convention to be chaired by Adamawa State Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, with Osun Governor Ademola Adeleke as Vice Chairman and Enugu Governor Peter Mbah as Secretary.
