The Edo South senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the 2023 general election, Valentine Asuen, has been suspended from the party.
Asuen who is the former state youth leader of the party was however defeated in the election by candidate of the Labour Party, Nada Imasuen.
His suspension was contained in a statement on Monday by the state publicity secretary of the party, Barr. Peter Uwadiae-Igbinigie.
He was accused of alleged acts of indiscipline and conducts that are in direct violation of the party constitution, and inciting division among party members to undermine the collective spirit of loyalty expected of members.
According to the publicity secretary, the suspension is “in line with Article 21 of the APC Constitution (2022, as amended)”, which states offences and disciplinary measures for members who’s actions threaten the party’s stability.
“Such behaviour, as attributed to Asuen, attracts sanctions including suspension.
“Edo APC is commitment to discipline and internal democracy. It would not tolerate acts capable of destabilizing the party or creating disaffection among its members,” Uwadiae-Igbinigie said.
He, however, dismissed insinuation that appointments of party members in Oredo LGA by Governor Monday Okpebholo had been influenced by the State Secretary, Lawrence Okah, adding that all appointments made so far have been equitably distributed across the state.
