Deputy National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafi’u Bala, has declared himself the authentic national chairman of the party, insisting that his mandate can't be “snatched”.
Embattled Deputy National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Nafi’u Bala, has declared himself the authentic national chairman of the party, insisting that his mandate can’t be “snatched” and vows to challenge attempts to remove him.
Bala made the declaration on Monday shortly after a zonal meeting with the North-East caucus of the party. Speaking to journalists, he described reports of his suspension or dismissal as “malicious” and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
“My ward executives received me warmly and confirmed they were not involved in any publications alleging suspension or dismissal. They are 100 percent behind me, following the party constitution,” Bala said.
He pointed to the ADC constitution, which he said allows the deputy national chairman to assume leadership only upon the voluntary resignation of the national chairman. “Therefore, I remain the authentic national chairman of our great party,” he added.
Bala further alleged that some individuals claiming to be leaders were not even registered members of the ADC. “We are going to mobilise our members across the North-East to rebuild the party. Those claiming leadership are misleading the public,” he said.
The North-East caucus of the ADC reiterated its support for Bala. Zonal Publicity Secretary Zayd Adamu said the caucus endorsed Bala following the voluntary resignation of Chief Ralph Okey Nwosu as national chairman.
“We unanimously support the seamless transition of leadership to Hon. Nafi’u Bala as acting national chairman. Any claims of his expulsion are invalid, unlawful, and illegal,” Adamu said.
Adamu urged proposed coalition partners to register as bona fide ADC members at ward levels, respect party structures, and comply with both the Electoral Act and the ADC constitution.
“The ADC remains a progressive platform committed to democratic renewal and national transformation. We urge all members, supporters, and prospective allies to unite under our guiding principles to build a stronger, equitable society for all Nigerians,” he added.
