For several candidates, the completion of the Post-UTME marked the beginning of an anxious wait for the release of results and subsequent admission lists.
The University of Ibadan (UI) has successfully concluded its Post-UTME screening exercise for the 2025/2026 academic session, bringing to an end days of intense competition among thousands of admission seekers.
The screening, which began earlier in the week, officially ended on Wednesday with over 14,000 candidates applying for various undergraduate programmes in Nigeria’s premier university.
Despite the high number of applicants, the institution is expected to admit fewer than 5,000 students, in line with its admission quota approved by the National Universities Commission. Records from the university show that only about 4,215 candidates were admitted during the last academic session, underscoring the stiff competition for entry into the institution.
The exercise was closely monitored by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Peter Olapegba, alongside other principal officers of the university.
Medical personnel from the institution’s health centre were also stationed at the venues to provide support for both candidates and staff throughout the process.
Parents and guardians who accompanied their wards expressed optimism, though many admitted that the limited number of available slots meant that only the very best would secure admission.
For several candidates, the completion of the Post-UTME marked the beginning of an anxious wait for the release of results and subsequent admission lists.
With the conclusion of the exercise, attention now shifts to the university’s admission office, where the screening of scores and selection of successful candidates will determine those who eventually secure a place in the university’s classrooms later this year.
