Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has thrown his hat into the ring for the 2027 presidential race, declaring he will contest the African Democratic Congress (ADC) primary.

Amaechi, who spoke to journalists in Kano after meeting with a coalition of traders, said he would not step down for any aspirant in the race.

“I will contest the ADC presidential primary, and by God’s grace, I hope to win so that I can face Tinubu in 2027. I am not stepping down for anyone. Let the people decide who they want to lead,” the former Rivers State Governor said.

Amaechi also criticised President Bola Tinubu’s administration, saying Nigerians were “tired” of hardship and poor governance. According to him, the government’s policies had failed to bring relief.

“Whether they want to conduct credible elections or not, one thing is certain—time is up. Nigerians are suffering everywhere, not just in Rivers,” he added.

On the strength of his political base, amid claims of losing ground to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, Amaechi dismissed the notion, boasting of a massive crowd during his recent ADC inauguration rally in Rivers.

The former governor described himself as one of the most prepared aspirants for 2027, insisting his candidacy offers unity across regions.
