Trump takes big decision on Kamala Harris

Former US Vice President, Kamala Harris, has been hit with a major setback following a directive from President Donald Trump.

Harris, who left office in January, was entitled by law to six months of security cover, which had already expired in July. But her former boss, Joe Biden, had earlier extended the protection by an executive directive.

That extension has now been revoked by Trump in a memo dated August 28, directing the Secret Service to discontinue the additional coverage from September 1.

The move comes just as Harris prepares to embark on a national book tour for her memoir, 107 Days, which documents her short-lived presidential campaign in 2024.

The decision has sparked outrage from California Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, with questions now hanging over who will provide protection for the former Vice President going forward.

Harris, the first woman and first person of colour to hold the office of Vice President, had faced several security threats during her time in office.

Since returning to the White House in January, Trump has also withdrawn Secret Service protection from several others, including Hunter Biden, Ashley Biden, Anthony Fauci, and former aides like Mike Pompeo and John Bolton.
