Joao Felix announced his arrival in the Saudi Pro League with a sensational hat-trick, leading Al-Nassr to a commanding 5-0 victory over Al-Taawoun at King Abdullah Sport City Stadium on Friday.
The Portuguese star’s dazzling debut, combined with contributions from Cristiano Ronaldo and Kingsley Coman, sent a strong message about Al-Nassr’s title ambitions for the 2025-26 season.
Felix wasted no time making an impact, opening the scoring in just the seventh minute.
Assisted by Angelo Gabriel, the 25-year-old fired a precise left-footed shot into the far corner, setting the tone for Al-Nassr’s dominant performance.
Despite Al-Taawoun’s efforts to regroup, they struggled to contain Al-Nassr’s revamped attack under new manager Jorge Jesus.
The first half ended with Al-Nassr leading 1-0, as Al-Taawoun’s goalkeeper Abdulquddus Atiah made key saves to keep the scoreline respectable.
The second half saw Al-Nassr unleash their full attacking potential. Ronaldo doubled the lead in the 54th minute, converting a penalty after a handball by Al-Taawoun’s Waleed Al-Ahmad.
A minute later, Coman marked his own debut with a looping header from a long ball by goalkeeper Nawaf Al Aqidi, making it 3-0.
Felix then stole the show, scoring his second goal in the 67th minute with a stunning strike into the top-right corner.
He completed his hat-trick in the 87th minute, tapping in after Ronaldo’s deflected cross hit the crossbar, sealing the 5-0 scoreline.
Al-Nassr’s emphatic win highlighted the impact of their summer signings, including Felix, Coman, and Inigo Martinez, as well as the tactical acumen of Jorge Jesus, who previously coached rivals Al-Hilal.
After finishing 13 points behind champions Al-Ittihad last season, Al-Nassr showcased their intent to challenge for the title with a performance that blended flair, precision, and ruthlessness.
Al-Taawoun, despite their reputation as a tough opponent, were outclassed. Substitutions, including Adam A. and Sultan Mandash in the 58th minute, failed to turn the tide, as Al-Nassr’s high-pressing game left them with little possession or attacking threat.
