Bayern Munich have confirmed that Chelsea striker, Nicolas Jackson, will return to London after a proposed loan deal dramatically collapsed on Saturday.

Jackson had landed in Munich earlier in the day, ready to seal a season-long loan with an option to buy. But just hours later, Chelsea pulled the plug after striker Liam Delap picked up an injury in their 2-0 win over Fulham.

Speaking after Bayern’s 3-2 Bundesliga win over Augsburg, the club’s sporting director, Max Eberl, broke the news.

“Chelsea informed us that they would like the player back after we agreed yesterday,” he said.
“The situation now is that the lad is here in Munich, but we are sending him back.”

Jackson’s agent had earlier posted defiantly on social media: “We’re not going back. The plane doesn’t go backwards: Munich.”

But Chelsea boss, Enzo Maresca, made it clear Delap’s six-to-eight-week absence meant he could not afford to lose Jackson.

“When you have two strikers, it’s enough. When one of them is injured for different weeks, probably it’s not enough,” Maresca explained.

Bayern, who were desperate for attacking reinforcements behind Harry Kane after losing Kingsley Coman, Leroy Sane, Thomas Muller and Mathys Tel this summer, must now look elsewhere.

The transfer window slams shut on Monday, September 1.
