A tragic incident unfolded in Niger State on Saturday evening when a woman identified simply as Amaye was lynched and set ablaze by an angry mob over alleged blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad.
The incident occurred in Kasuwan-Garba town, Mariga Local Government Area. Reports indicate that Amaye, a food vendor, was accused of making offensive remarks at her restaurant after a customer joked about marrying her, citing the Prophet’s tradition.
Fearing mob action, residents initially took the woman to the palace of the District Head, who then handed her over to security operatives for investigation. However, the crowd overpowered the operatives and set her on fire.
The Chairman of Mariga LGA, Abbas Adamu Kasuwan-Garba, confirmed the incident, noting that normalcy had been restored in the town.
Police spokesman SP Wasiu Abiodun also confirmed the development, stating that the victim was killed before reinforcements could arrive. He assured that efforts were ongoing to arrest and prosecute those responsible.
