Bank Employee In Court For Alleged Forgery

A Diamond Bank employee, Mr. Nnamdi Obi of Bauchi Court, Guduwa Estate, Abuja, has appeared before an Abuja Chief Magistrates’ Court charged with forgery.

The accused, a former marketing officer of the bank at Dei-dei branch, was said to have sometimes in April, dishonestly obtained a loan of N3 million for himself in the names of two customers.

The customers were workers at some other banks.

Police Prosecutor Bulus Obeta told the court that the accused forged the signatures of the customers and other important documents to collect the money and converted it to his personal use.

He said that the accused was charged with criminal breach of trust, cheating and forgery, which contravened Sections 314, 322 and 364 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Chief Magistrate Okeagu Azubike granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

He also ordered that the sureties must be good and responsible Nigerians and must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

The case was adjourned till December 14 for hearing.
