The Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has assured that the eight slain personnel of the Corps will be given a befitting burial with full honours.
He made this known in a statement on Saturday, issued by the National Public Relations Officer of the Corps, CSC Afolabi Babawale.
Audi, who condemned the gruesome killing of the operatives by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Friday in Edo State, directed the Edo State Commandant and other Management Staff Officers to pay condolence visits to the families of the deceased.
He noted that the labour, commitment, and patriotism displayed by the operatives would forever be remembered.
He also assured that the medical bills of officers currently receiving intensive care would be fully covered, and that adequate treatment would be provided to ensure their speedy recovery.
However, he emphasised that the unfortunate incident would not deter the Corps from carrying out its statutory mandate of protecting critical national assets and infrastructure.
The NSCDC Commandant-General urged members of the public to disregard what he described as embellished reports, stressing that he remains fully committed to the welfare, safety, and care of the officers and men of the Corps.
He expressed appreciation to relevant security agencies that have collaborated with the Corps in ensuring that the forest where the kidnappers are believed to be hiding is thoroughly combed in order to rescue the abducted expatriate and bring the perpetrators to justice.
