“To prevent severe traffic disruption, our personnel swiftly cleared the accident vehicles and restored free vehicular movement along the corridor,” Bakare-Oki added.

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has reported that its swift intervention in two separate road accidents at Olohunsogo Bus Stop, inbound Mile 2, and near Stadium Hotel, Ojuelegba, Surulere, saved the lives of five individuals.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Lagos, LASTMA’s General Manager, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, detailed the incidents and commended the professionalism of the agency’s officers.

At the Olohunsogo Bus Stop incident, a Toyota Camry with registration number FST 450 HG collided with a stationary Scania truck (LSR 243 YC). Bakare-Oki said LASTMA’s immediate and precise response led to the successful extrication of the driver and one passenger, both of whom sustained serious injuries.

“The casualties were promptly transported to Ademola Hospital, located opposite Ijanikin Police Station, where they received urgent medical attention,” he said.

Reckless driving was identified as the cause of the accident. The driver of the parked Scania truck was apprehended on the scene by LASTMA operatives, with support from officers of the Ijanikin Police Division who provided security.

“To prevent severe traffic disruption, our personnel swiftly cleared the accident vehicles and restored free vehicular movement along the corridor,” Bakare-Oki added.

In a separate incident near Stadium Hotel in Ojuelegba, a commercial Mazda bus (KRD 141 YH) lost control while negotiating the road and crashed into the median of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lane.

According to the LASTMA boss, the bus driver and two passengers were found unconscious but were rescued alive by LASTMA officers. “Providentially, all three survived the ordeal,” he confirmed.

Bakare-Oki praised the speed, professionalism, and coordination between LASTMA officers and the police in handling both emergencies.

He reiterated the authority’s commitment to rapid emergency response, efficient traffic management, and the safety of the public.

The LASTMA General Manager also urged motorists to comply strictly with speed limits and ensure regular mechanical maintenance of their vehicles, stressing that “speeding and mechanical negligence must be avoided.”
