Founder of David’s Christian Centre, Pastor Kingsley Okonkwo, has cautioned women against relying on men for financial support, stressing that such expectations are cultural rather than biblical.

In a recent sermon, the clergyman emphasized that the Bible advocates hard work and personal responsibility, not dependency. According to him, women should not expect men to shoulder their financial needs.

“It never favours you. That thing was a cultural idea. It’s not biblical. What the Bible says is that he that does not work should not eat,” he said.
Pastor Okonkwo questioned why women who previously sustained themselves before marriage or relationships suddenly shift the responsibility of survival to men. He described such attitudes as “poor people talk,” noting that individuals from well-to-do families are raised with the mindset of self-sufficiency.

He further criticized women who rate themselves solely based on what men can provide, warning that such dependence often leads to mistreatment.

“The way some of you are being treated is because of how you have rated yourself. If you don’t buy me popcorn, I won’t come. Then the way they will pop you like corn. They are disgracing your family,” he stated.
