NRC boosts Abuja–Kaduna Train trips after turbulent years

The corporation expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to commuters during the suspension and reassured the public of its dedication to safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced the full resumption of passenger train operations on the Port Harcourt–Aba corridor.

The move follows the successful testing of Locomotive 2223, which has now been certified fit for service after weeks of disruption.

The disclosure was made in a statement signed by the District Public Relations Officer of NRC’s Eastern District, Dr. Onyedikachi S. Onovo, in Enugu.

He explained that the resumption was part of the corporation’s commitment to restoring confidence in the Port Harcourt–Aba service, which remains one of the busiest rail routes in the South-East and South-South regions.

“As directed by the Managing Director, passengers who previously purchased tickets for trips disrupted by the temporary suspension of services will be able to travel free of charge when operations resume,” the statement read.

“In addition, new passengers will benefit from a 50 per cent discount on fares as a gesture of goodwill.”

The corporation expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to commuters during the suspension and reassured the public of its dedication to safety, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

The Port Harcourt–Aba corridor has over the years served as a vital transport link, connecting business communities, traders, and travellers across the South-East and Niger Delta.

The recent disruption, though temporary, had raised concerns among regular commuters who rely heavily on the rail service for affordable and reliable transportation.

With the clearance of Locomotive 2223 and the return of normal services, stakeholders say the move will not only ease the transport burden on passengers but also strengthen the economic activities between the two cities.

The NRC, in recent years, has been working to modernise its services, improve infrastructure, and enhance passenger experience in line with the Federal Government’s broader vision of revamping Nigeria’s rail sector.
