A set of dare devil gunmen attacked a police checkpoint in Yagba West Local Govermment Area of Kogi State, killing three operatives, each from Yoruba, Igala and Hausa.
It was gathered that the bandits laid ambush for the law enforcement officers at a roadblock along Egbe/Okunran Road early in the morning.
When the officers resumed duty around 8 a.m., they did not sense any danger until the hoodlums suddenly showed up and began a shooting spree.
A trader in Egbe who confirmed the story under cover said that after killing the officers, they also deflated the tyre of their vehicle.
“The bandits laid ambush for the policemen at the checkpoint between Egbe and Okunran. It is a sad day for us here. Initially, we thought other people were kidnapped beside the murdered officers. We later realised nobody was kidnapped, and they did not take anything away. The environment feels unsafe in the area now.”
The Kogi State Police Command Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, also confirmed the attack.
He explained that the Kogi State Commissioner of Police Miller Dantawaye has deployed Police tactical team to the area, adding that they are on the trail of the gunmen.
“I can confirm to you that three of our officers on duty were killed today in Egbe; a border community with Kwara State.
“The Commissioner of Police has deployed tactical squad to the area. We are currently on the trail of this Men of the Underworld, and they will all be arrested.” Aya assured.
