The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has come hard on Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, over his criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s borrowing policy.
In a statement released on Thursday, APC spokesman Seye Oladejo accused Obi of hypocrisy, saying he had no moral authority to talk about prudent financial management.
“Borrowing under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not reckless. It is strategic, tied to infrastructure, energy, transport, and productive sectors. Even advanced economies borrow to fund growth,” Oladejo said.
The APC publicity secretary mocked Obi’s record as governor of Anambra, claiming he left behind unpaid pensions, collapsing infrastructure, and poor human capital indices.
He also blasted Obi for what he called “extravagant tendencies,” pointing at his private jet lifestyle during campaigns.
“Unlike Obi’s motivational-speech politics, Tinubu is taking bold steps, subsidy removal, currency reforms, and targeted borrowing. These are difficult but inevitable measures to reset the economy,” Oladejo added.
The APC maintained that Tinubu is building Nigeria’s future, while Obi is “busy building sound bites.”
