Ekiti: 45-year-old Mike Okoro docked for allegedly defiling 9-year-old

A 45-year-old man identified as Mike Okoro has been remanded in a Correctional Centre in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State, for allegedly defiling a 9-year-old girl.

Okoro, whose address was not provided was docked by the police on a charge of rape before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Police prosecutor, Insp Abiodun Bamidele, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Sept. 3 in Ijesha Isu-Ekiti.

Bamidele said that the defendant lured the girl, who was sent on an errand by her mother and had sexual intercourse with her.

He said that the girl later told her mother what had happened and the defendant was arrested.

Bamidele urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional centre, pending the DPP’s advice.

Bamidele said that the offence contravened Section 31 of the Child Right Law of the State, 2021.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, who did not take the plea of Okoro, ordered that the case file should be sent to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice.

Adeosun adjourned the case until Oct. 10 for mention.
