The Lagos State Government has unveiled the maiden edition of the Eko Arts and Craft Competition, designed for students in secondary and tertiary institutions across the state.

The announcement was made at a press conference on Thursday at the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Tourism, Damilola Ayinde Marshal.

According to her, the initiative is one of the Governor’s strategic programmes aimed at harnessing creativity, empowering young people, and positioning Lagos as the cultural and entertainment hub of Africa.

“The competition has been carefully structured to discover, nurture, and showcase the immense talents within our classrooms. We recognise that among our students are budding artists, sculptors, and creative thinkers whose gifts must not only be encouraged but also refined, celebrated, and projected to the world,” she said.

Marshal also announced the official launch of the registration portal- www.ekoschoolsartsandcrafts.com, which will serve as the central platform for students to sign up and submit their works.

Registration will run from 11 to 18 September 2025, while the main competition will take place between 18 September and 2 October 2025.

She revealed that the overall winner would receive a one-year scholarship, along with other opportunities such as mentorship, exhibitions, and possible industry partnerships to support their creative journey.

Marshal urged school administrators, teachers, parents, and guardians to encourage their wards to seize the opportunity, describing it as a golden platform to showcase young talent.

She also commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his continued commitment to youth empowerment, tourism development, and the promotion of arts and culture in Lagos State.
