Six people were killed while many houses and other properties were razed by rampaging gunmen who stormed Ikn’gwakap Community of Mushere Chiefdom in Bokkos local government area of Plateau State early Sunday morning, eyewitnesses said.

The gunmen stormed community at midnight and started shooting sporadically at the end of which six people were confirmed dead.

The National Publicity Secretary of Mushere Youth movement (MYM), Kutyil Gashion Nahum also confirmed the gunmen attack in a statement.

He also claimed several other residents were still missing as a result of the attack.

“On the night of Sunday, 14th September, 2025, about six innocent persons including women and children were brutally murdered in their sleep in Ikn’gwakap, the Headquarters of Mushere Chiefdom,” he said.

“It is both alarming and unacceptable that despite repeated attacks on Mushere communities, not a single perpetrator has been arrested or neutralised.

“This persistent failure highlights the urgent need for a total overhaul of the security architecture in the area.

MYM called on the government at all levels to rise to its constitutional duty of protecting lives and property of the people of the area.

“The continued silence and inaction only embolden terrorists to perpetrate more violence on defenseless communities.”

The MYM while demanding immediate and decisive action, equally urged all citizens across Mushere and Bokkos to remain vigilant, united, and proactive in safeguarding their communities, even as they continued to press peacefully and firmly for justice and lasting peace.

According to the statement, blood of their people must not continue to be shed in vain while stressing that the time for decisive action was now.

Communities in Plateau State have suffered repeated attacks by gunmen often believed to be militia working for Fulani herdsmen in conflict with farmers.

However, some members of the communities have described the attacks and killings as a form of genocide decide to wipe them away and take over their lands for grazing by the herders.

The attacks have persisted despite promises of government to nip them in the bud.
