Nigeria’s sprint diva, Tobi Amusan, has continued her fine form at the Tokyo 2025 World Championships by qualifying for the women’s 100m hurdles final.

Amusan, who holds the world record in the event, won her semifinal heat on Monday with an impressive time of 12.36 seconds despite a slight headwind of -0.2.

The 27-year-old crossed the finish line ahead of Nadine Visser of the Netherlands, who clocked 12.45 seconds, and Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska, who finished third in 12.51 seconds.

The Nigerian’s performance not only secured her place in the final but also gave her the fastest qualifying time among all the athletes.

This means Amusan will head into the final as one of the top contenders for the gold medal, raising hopes of another historic moment for Nigerian athletics.
Amusan has built a reputation for delivering under pressure on the big stage.

She first made history in 2022 when she smashed the world record in the 100m hurdles, and since then she has remained one of the most consistent hurdlers in global competitions. Her Tokyo run shows she is determined to add another championship medal to her growing collection.

Nigerians at home and abroad will now be eagerly awaiting the final, where Amusan will aim to defend her status as one of the best hurdlers in the world and possibly bring home another gold for the country.
