“Meetings like this will be replicated at the local government, ward, and unit levels to drive mobilisation and ensure Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.”

Prominent elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State have pledged to mobilise massive grassroots support to secure President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in the 2027 general election.

Operating under the banner of the Ondo State APC Elders Movement, the group says it is committed to ensuring that at least 1.5 million out of the state’s 1.9 million registered voters turn out on election day to cast their votes for Tinubu.

The commitment was made on Monday during a strategic meeting held in Akure, the state capital. The meeting brought together party stalwarts, elder statesmen, and grassroots mobilisers across the state.

Chairman of the group and former Senator, Nimbe Farunkanmi, said the movement is focused on unity, mobilisation, and ensuring continuity in leadership under President Tinubu.

“This is the Elders’ Movement for Tinubu’s continuity in office,” said Farunkanmi.

“Meetings like this will be replicated at the local government, ward, and unit levels to drive mobilisation and ensure Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.”

Another leader of the movement, Mr. Jamiu Ekungba, explained that the group is already actively involved in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stressing that commitment to registration and participation is key.

“Our aim is to bring everyone together to ensure full mobilisation,” he said.
“In the last election, the governor secured over 366,000 votes — that was a significant result. This time, we’re aiming higher. We believe 1.5 million votes for President Tinubu in 2027 is not only possible but achievable.”

Ekungba also addressed the issue of voter apathy, noting that the elders were determined to reverse the trend by engaging directly with the electorate.

“People have been reluctant to vote, but this time, we’re persuading them to come out in large numbers. When we return that 1.5 million figure, it will be real votes — no one will question the legitimacy.”

Speaking at the event, Mrs. Olukemi Iyantan, Ondo State representative on the National Population Commission (NPC), said the group had shifted focus to the 2027 presidential election following the upcoming governorship poll scheduled for November 16, 2024.

“We are now focused on the President’s re-election in 2027. The creation of this elders’ movement is strategic.
Unlike before, we now have a structured leadership and committed elders who will guide the mobilisation process. This unity of purpose is what will make the difference.”

She emphasised that the renewed leadership structure and collaboration among APC elders would provide a solid foundation for a successful campaign.
