The Oyo State Police Command says it has arrested a middle-aged Islamic cleric, identified as Alfa Basiru, who was allegedly found in possession of items suspected to be human flesh at the Ibadan Toll Gate on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, disclosed this via the Command’s verified X (formerly Twitter) handle.
He said the discovery involving the cleric was made during a Stop and Search operation conducted by the Federal Highway Patrol Team on a Lagos-bound commercial bus with registration number XA 561 IRG, at the Ibadan Toll Gate area.
He confirmed that the case has been transferred to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, for further investigation. Forensic tests will be carried out on the confiscated items to verify their nature.
In a separate incident, Osifeso also confirmed the recovery of a Toyota Camry vehicle that was abandoned by its driver, who fled during another Stop and Search operation.
He explained that police operatives had flagged down the vehicle when the driver attempted to evade arrest by fleeing the scene on foot. The vehicle has since been taken into custody.
“The car is now in police custody. Any member of the public with a legitimate claim to the vehicle is advised to present verifiable ownership documents or contact the Police Command directly,” Osi
feso stated.
He further stressed that the Stop and Search operations are not exaggerated security theatrics, but rather strategic and deliberate efforts aimed at maintaining law and order, and ensuring the safety of residents and commuters within Oyo State.
