Twenty-five suspected peddlers of illicit drugs have been arrested by troops of the Nigerian Army at their hideout at Layin Sabon Kasuwa, Mangu Local Government Area (LGA) of Plateau State.
The suspects were arrested by troops of Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace (JTF-OPEP), Maj. Samson Zhakom, the Media Officer of the operation disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Jos.
Zhakom said that the troops, who raided the suspects’ hideout at Layin Sabon Kasuwa, also recovered some illicit substances.
The media officer said that the activities of the drug peddlers had largely contributed to the security challenges confronting the state.
“During the operation, troops arrested 25 suspected drug peddlers in possession of substances suspected to be Cannabis Sativa and other illicit drugs.
“The arrested suspects and recovered items are in custody and would be handed over to relevant agencies for prosecution,”he said.
Zhakom called on residents of the Plateau, particularly parents, to support the security agencies in tackling the consumption of illicit substances in the state.
