Ogun governor, Dapo Abiodun has harped on the need for a detailed and carefully coordinated process in the filling of the vacant throne of Awujale of Ijebu-Ode.

Abiodun said this on Friday when he received the body overseeing traditional and administrative matters during the transition period of installing a new Awujale of Ijebu-Ode in his office in Abeokuta, acccording to Rasak Sekoni, Information Officer at Ogun Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs.

Abiodun further charged members to maintain neutrality when the process of filling the Awujale’s vacant stool formally begins.

According to the statement, while receiving the Transition Council in Abeokuta, Abiodun said the installation of an Awujale required a detailed and carefully coordinated process.

Abiodun also recalled that inaugurating the Council in August was necessary to sustain the traditional and administrative roles long associated with the Awujale Palace.

The governor was represented by the Commissioner of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr Ganiyu Hamzat.

Abiodun assured government support, stressing that the Council’s success was crucial to sustaining the legacy of late Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.

He urged the Council to be united, fair and unbiased in discharging their responsibilities in the collective interest of all stakeholders.

Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, a revered traditional ruler, passed away on July 13 at the age of 91 and was buried the following day.

The Oba, who ruled for an unprecedented 65 years, was one of Nigeria’s longest-serving traditional rulers and a major voice in national affairs.

He also left an indelible mark on the Ijebu community.

President Bola Tinubu described the late monarch as his mentor and trusted confidante during the eighth-day Fidau prayer held for the him in Ijebu Ode.

‎Tinubu emphasised that the Awujale was not just a traditional ruler but a personal mentor and confidante of immense value.

The President praised Oba Adetona’s life of dedicated service, marked by integrity, courage, and unyielding devotion to his people.

“Kabiyesi was more than a royal father. He was a guide, a man of truth, and a source of steadying wisdom.

“For over 60 years on the throne, he led with candour, honour, and an unwavering sense of responsibility to his people,”
