NRC apologizes for Abuja-Kaduna train delay, clarifies passengers not stranded

Quick Read

According to the Corporation, both infrastructure and rolling stock have been restored “to the highest safety standards in line with global best practices.”

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed that the Abuja–Kaduna passenger train service will resume operations next week, after being suspended for over a month.

In a statement issued on Saturday, NRC Chief Public Relations Officer, Callistus Unyimadu, said the decision followed the “successful completion of repair and safety checks on the affected section of track at Asham,” which was damaged during the August 26 incident.

According to the Corporation, both infrastructure and rolling stock have been restored “to the highest safety standards in line with global best practices.”

The NRC noted that passenger welfare remained central throughout the suspension.

It disclosed that 512 of the 583 passengers on board the affected train had already been refunded, while efforts were underway to reach the remaining passengers.

“We are committed to ensuring that no one is left behind,” the statement assured.

The Corporation also used the opportunity to commend stakeholders who supported its recovery efforts.

“We acknowledge the invaluable support of the Federal Ministry of Transportation, security agencies, the media, and all stakeholders during this period of recovery,” Unyimadu stated.

Reassuring the public, the NRC emphasised that passenger safety, comfort and satisfaction would remain its “top priority” as service resumes.

While an exact reopening date was not disclosed, the Corporation said further details on the schedule would be announced in the coming days.
