At the weekend, during the PDP congress in Niger State, former Minister of Information and party leader, Prof. Jerry Gana, said that former President Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 presidential election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Speaking to journalists in Minna, Gana explained that the party is ready to bring Jonathan back as Nigeria’s president.
He said: “In 2015, former President Goodluck Jonathan declared that his ambition was not worth the blood of Nigerians. After him, another president served for eight years and the current one has ruled for two years.
Nigerians have now seen the difference and are asking us to bring back Jonathan. I can confirm that Goodluck Jonathan will contest the 2027 election as the PDP candidate.”
Gana added that the PDP believes in democracy and in allowing the people to freely choose their leader.
On whether the opposition party has a chance in 2027 despite internal challenges, he said: “The PDP has a great opportunity because it is truly a grassroots party.
The founding fathers have already met in Abuja and resolved many of the issues.”
According to him, Nigerians still love the PDP because its programmes focused on the welfare of the people.
“That is why they are urging us to return,” he said.
On the economy, Gana argued that the current government is discouraging foreign investors because of “evil gatekeepers.
” He insisted that Nigeria is still the best place for investment.
