An Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court on Monday sentenced a 26-year-old security guard, Ismalia Adamu to seven years imprisonment for indecent treatment of a five-year-old minor.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Adam was arraigned by the Lagos State Government on a two-count charge of indecent treatment of a child and sexual assault.

The convict had pleaded not guilty to following his arraignment o March 15, 2023.

Justice Abiola Soladoye, while delivering the judgment on Monday, held that the prosecution successfully proved the charge of indecent treatment of a child against the convict beyond reasonable doubt.

Soladoye held that the survivor’s testimony was lucid, straight forward and truthful,

“The survivor testified before this court that when she was in basic four, her mother sent her to buy noodles and the convict lured her into the room and removed her pant in order to have sex with her.

“She was direct and she kept to what she had told this honourable court.

“The defendant’s indecent exposure of his manhood before a child is an indecent behaviour,” she said.

The court consequently sentenced Adamu to seven years jail term and held that the sentencing should begin from the day of his remand on June 30, 2021.

The court also maintained that the name of the convict be written in the Lagos State Sexual Offences Register.

The judge, however, discharged and acquitted the convict of the second count charge of sexual assault and held that there was no no prove that the convict ejaculated on the body of the survivor

The court held that there was no penetration according to the medical report which was carried out.

The State Counsel, Ms Olubukola Olaoye called three witnesses during trial while the convict testified solely for himself.

The prosecutor told the court that the convict committed the offence on June 6, 2021 on Attan Road, Surulere, Lagos.

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 135 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State.
