Woman Arraigned For Alleged Disturbance
The police on Tuesday arraigned a 31-year old woman, Judith Uwa, before an Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing disturbance in a public place.
The police prosecutor, Sgt. Steven Eimoga, told the court that the crime was reported to the Karu Police Station on 25 November by one Israel Sunday, a motorist residing at Kabayi, Mararaba, Nasarawa State.
Eimoga said the complainant had picked the accused with other passengers from Nyanya and was heading for Garki, Abuja
He said that the vehicle stopped while approaching Kugbo and Sunday pleaded with the passengers to alight so that he could fix the car.
The accused immediately jumped down from the car and ran across the road, shouting and claiming the complainant was a thief, the prosecutor said.
He further said that the shouts of the accused attracted around 50 people armed with weapons such as sticks, knives and cutlasses.
Eimoga said that the crowd eventually wounded one of the passengers, Alex Wende, who fainted on the spot and was later rushed to the hospital.
He added that police investigation showed that the complainant was not a thief.
The prosecutor said the accused committed an offence by inciting disturbance, giving false information and causing grievous hurt punishable under Sections 79, 114, 156 and 241 of the Penal Code.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge and was granted bail by Senior Magistrate Celestine Odo in the sum of N100,000 with a surety in like sum.
Odo said the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court and adjourned hearing to 14 December.
