FIBA-Africa Tourney: Angola Arrive Lagos

Ahead of the first jump ball of the 17th FIBA-Africa Women Club Championship to be hosted in Lagos, Nigeria, Angolan teams, Inter Clube and Maculosso, arrived the country last night.

The Angolan sides, who are lodged in a hotel in Surulere, are expected to pose the stiffest challenge to the Nigerian representatives, First Deepwater Basketball Club and First Bank in their quest for success at this year’s tourney, which will be played at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

Speaking on the early arrival of Inter Clube and Maculosso, Media Officer of Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF, Olusegun Ikuesan said: “This shows the seriousness the Angolan sides attach to the championship and also their readiness to win the title.”

Ikuesan informed P.M Sports that other teams billed to participate in the championship are expected to arrive Lagos today or latest tomorrow.

Teams expected include Arc-en-ciel of Congo DR, O.C.E of Algeria, Ports Authority of Kenya and I.N.J.S of Cameroon, whic withdrew from hosting the championship due to financial constraints.

Nigerian league champions, First Deepwater, owned by Babatunde Babalola are the hosts.
