President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has paid a heartfelt tribute to Comrade Abiodun Aremu, the veteran unionist and rights activist who passed away on Sunday in Ota, Ogun State.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga, the President expressed deep sympathy to Aremu’s family, the labour movement, and Nigeria’s civil society community, describing the late activist as “a committed fighter who devoted his life to empowering workers and advancing their rights.”
President Tinubu said Comrade Aremu stood as a beacon of conviction and courage, championing justice and equality even in the face of adversity.
“He was a courageous comrade who remained steadfast in his beliefs and never wavered in his defence of the oppressed. Aremu was a teacher, an organiser, a conscience of the people. He shaped minds and inspired generations of Nigerians on integrity, justice and patriotism,” the President stated.
The President extended his condolences to the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), and the broader civil society, acknowledging that Aremu’s death leaves a void in the nation’s struggle for workers’ welfare and social justice.
