Senator Kaila Dahuwa Samaila, representing Bauchi North, has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

His defection letter, addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and read during Tuesday’s plenary, cited the lingering crisis within the PDP as his reason for leaving the opposition party, Vanguard disclosed.

According to Samaila, internal wranglings in the PDP had made it impossible for him to effectively represent his constituents.

“The Peoples Democratic Party has gravely constrained my ability to discharge my constitutional responsibilities effectively and in good conscience,” his letter partly read.

He said his decision to join the APC was driven by a desire to align with President Bola Tinubu’s “bold and transformative reforms” aimed at repositioning the country for growth.

“Consequently, I have chosen to join the All Progressives Congress and lend my full commitment to the reforms of His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu,” he added.

Samaila praised President Tinubu for his “decisive leadership” and commended Senate President Godswill Akpabio for what he described as “exemplary leadership” of the 10th Senate.

With his defection, the composition of the Senate now stands as follows: APC — 74 seats; PDP — 27; Labour Party — 4; APGA — 2; NNPP — 1; and SDP — 1, bringing the total to 109 senators.
