FIBA-Africa Club Tourney Begins In Lagos
The 17th edition of the FIBA Africa Champions Club for Women will dunk off this weekend inside the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
Nigeria will be represented in the championship, scheduled to run from 4-10 December, by its domestic league champions, First Deepwater and the runners up, First Bank, both based in Lagos. Other clubs participating in the seven day championship include I.N.J.S of Cameroon, Arc-en-ciel of DR Congo, Ports Authority of Kenya, O.C.E of Algeria, Maculosso of Angola and Interclube of Angola, who are the defending champions.
The Angolan teams, Maculosso and Interclube, are the first set of foreign teams to arrive for the championship as they flew in on Wednesday night in readiness for the defence of the title they won last year.
Speaking on their chances, Nacissela Mauricio of Maculosso, who was part of the Angolan national women’s team that won Afrobasket trophy recently in Mali, said they are in Nigeria to defend their title.
