It was a deeply emotional moment on the popular Yoruba TV programme Masoyinbo when a young guest’s traditional eulogy brought the show’s host, Olalekan Fabilola, to tears.

The guest broke into a passionate two-minute oríkì (praise chant) that echoed with rich Yoruba expressions and rhythm, a rare sight on modern television.

As the young performer’s voice filled the studio, Fabilola struggled to hold back tears. He later admitted that the moment touched something deep within him.

“I saw hope in that young man,” he said. “The way he praised, with confidence, knowledge, and reverence reminded me that our culture is not dying. God cannot be starved of praise.”

The clip, which has since circulated on social media, shows Fabilola covering his face briefly as the eulogy went on for about two minutes, before applauding the guest in awe.

Viewers have praised the host’s emotional response as genuine, saying it reflects how Yoruba culture continues to find new life through the younger generation.
