The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has a new helmsman. CP Dantawaye Miller has officially assumed office as the 34th Commissioner of Police, taking over from CP Ajao Adewale, who has been redeployed by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Miller, who resumed duty on Friday, October 17, 2025, pledged to strengthen community policing and build on existing security structures to ensure the safety of residents across the FCT.

According to the FCT Police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, the new commissioner described partnership with residents as key to effective policing, urging the public to continue supporting the police in maintaining peace and order.

“CP Miller has pledged to deepen community-police partnerships and strengthen security frameworks to ensure the safety of all residents within the Federal Capital Territory,” Adeh said in a statement.

Born on October 15, 1971, in Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Miller is the son of the late DCP Gajere Dantawaye.

He joined the Nigeria Police Force in May 2000 as a Cadet ASP and began his career in Bayelsa State in 2002. Over the years, he has served in several high-profile roles, including Acting Aide-de-Camp to a former Bayelsa governor, Escort Commander to a former Vice President, Chief Security Officer at the Ministry of Petroleum, and Commanding Officer of MOPOL 24 attached to the Presidential Villa.

Miller also served as ACP (Operations) in FCT, Area Commander in Adamawa, DCP (Operations) in Yobe and Edo States, and CP in charge of Information Technology at the Force Headquarters. Before his latest posting, he was the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command.

The FCT remains one of Nigeria’s most sensitive security zones, hosting the seat of government, foreign embassies, and critical infrastructure.
