A wave of grief has swept through the Nigerian community in the United Kingdom following the tragic death of a young Nigerian student, identified as Eddy, who passed away on October 17, 2025, at James Cook Hospital after battling lung complications.
The heartbreaking news was announced on X by the Oluomo of Derby, a prominent member of the Nigerians in the UK group, who described Eddy as a brave, hardworking, and beloved individual whose life inspired many.
“It is with deep pain in my heart that I announce the passing of our dear brother and friend, Eddy, who sadly left us on the 17th of October at James Cook Hospital. Eddy fought a brave and inspiring battle with lung complications while also working hard in his academics,” the post read in part.
Eddy was said to have shown remarkable strength and positivity throughout his illness, balancing his studies while undergoing treatment. Despite his resilience, he eventually succumbed to the illness, leaving behind a community deeply shaken by the loss.
“He truly gave his best, and though he won many battles, he couldn’t stay to enjoy the victory,” the statement added, describing him as “deeply loved by many, whose kindness, laughter, and determination touched everyone around him.”
The Nigerians in the UK community has called for unity and prayer among members as they mourn their compatriot, urging Nigerians to support one another during this difficult period.
“Let us take a moment to pray for his soul and for comfort for his loved ones. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace,” the Oluomo of Derby appealed.
