Political analyst and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, has taken a swipe at veteran journalist and publisher, Dele Momodu, over his recent comments on the ongoing trial of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

In a statement shared on his verified social media handle, Igbokwe accused Momodu of speaking without a full grasp of the devastating impact of IPOB’s activities across the South East from 2015 to 2025.

He urged the media mogul to conduct an independent investigation before taking a position on the matter.

“Dele, do you know what happened in the South East from 2015 to 2025? Do you know the number of casualties?” Igbokwe queried, noting that thousands of innocent lives were lost and communities destroyed during the years of unrest linked to IPOB, its armed affiliates, and unknown gunmen.

He advised Momodu to meet with governors of the five South East states, particularly Anambra Governor Chukwuma Soludo, who, according to him, had commissioned a panel led by Professor Chidi Odinkalu and Ambassador Bianca Ojukwu to document the atrocities committed in the region.

“The findings will shock you,” Igbokwe wrote, adding,  “Ask Soludo, and also meet the governors of Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, and Abia States to hear what their people have gone through in the last ten years.”

Drawing a comparison between the South East and the South West, Igbokwe praised the Yoruba for managing the agitation for self-determination with “wisdom and emotional intelligence.”

He cited the 1993 June 12 election crisis as an example of restraint in the face of provocation.

“Despite the injustice meted out to Chief MKO Abiola and the Yoruba people, they never went to war. They used wisdom, patience, and dialogue and today, they’ve produced presidents and vice presidents,” he stated.

Igbokwe lamented that the South East had not yet recovered from the losses of the 1967–1970 civil war before being plunged into another cycle of chaos by agitators like Ralph Uwazuruike, Nnamdi Kanu, and Simon Ekpa.

According to him, the IPOB movement had degenerated into a “business enterprise” driven by greed and manipulation, leaving behind a trail of destruction and fear.

“The Biafra project has become a scam, a business. The victims are afraid to speak. Families have been silenced by fear of the unknown,” he lamented.

The APC chieftain urged Momodu, as a journalist, to visit the South East with his media team and “see things for himself.”

“Carry your cameras, speak to governors, bishops, and the people. You will understand the depth of the pain our region has suffered,” Igbokwe stated.
