The son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Seyi Tinubu, has cleared the air over reports claiming he donated the sum of N20 million to Nollywood actress Sarah Martins after she was reportedly harassed for cooking on the street.
The viral reports ignited controversy online, with many accusing Seyi of supporting actions allegedly in violation of Lagos State regulations.
Reacting via his official social media page, Seyi Tinubu stated that while N20 million was indeed donated to the actress, the money did not come from him personally, but from his friends who wished to support her business venture.
He explained that their intention was to help her secure a proper location to operate legally and safely, rather than encourage street trading.
Seyi Tinubu wrote:
“Their intention, I believe, was to help her secure a proper space to run her business, not to undermine the law. I appreciate their kindness and concern.”
He further emphasized his commitment to the rule of law, stating:
“I must emphasise that while their hearts were in the right place, I do not support any act that violates the laws of Lagos State. Lagos thrives on order, and Nigeria’s strength depends on our collective respect for both our law and order. Empathy and patriotism must always go together.”
