Police vow action as Aregbesola fumes over attack on Ekiti ADC secretariat

Ekiti Commissioner of Police has ordered investigation into the attack on of the secretariat of the African Democratic Congress(ADC) in Ado-Ekiti with a view to bring the perpetrators to book.

The Commissioner made the pledge as ADC National Secretary and former Governor of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola, who arrived in Ado-Ekiti after the incident, described the attack as undemocratic.

Spokesman for the command, SP Sunday Abutu made the promise while speaking with newsmen in Ado-Ekiti on Tuesday.

Hoodlums on Monday night invaded the secretariat and destroyed chairs, tables, canopies, musical instruments, motorbikes, among others, before setting ablaze the building located on Basiri/Ilesa road.

The incident happened when the ADC was preparing for the inauguration of its state executives scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 21.

Abutu disclosed that the commissioner of police had ordered investigation into the incident with a view to bringing the perpetrators to book.

Aregbesola said it was unfortunate and shameful that products of democratic process can exhibit such ‘despicable act in the name of politics’.

He called on security agencies to safeguard lives and property in the state.

“When you see undemocratic people, undermining democratic process the way we have witness here, it is a terrible decline to racism,” he stated.

The former minister of interior pointed out that the beauty of democracy is the freedom to associate, participate in all the activities and festivals of democracy, such as open meetings, rallies and campaigns.

Aregbesola called on Nigerians and the security agencies to rise up to exterminate undemocratic acts in Nigeria’s polity.

An affirmation was later held for the state executives of the party in the State, while the state chairman of the party, Mr Ilesanmi Omolayo, inaugurated other executives.

Speaking after the inauguration, the chairman of ADC in the State called on party members to stand firm for the party.

Omolayo urged faithful to stand with the party towards winning all the elections in the state.

Party chieftains present include former deputy Governor of Ekiti, Prof. Olusola Eleka and former Speaker, Gboyega Aribisogun.
