Prominent human rights lawyer, Femi Falana (SAN), has paid a heartfelt tribute to the late Comrade Abiodun “Aremson” Aremu, describing him as a principled and fearless activist whose life was worthy of emulation.

Falana spoke during the Day of Tribute held in Lagos in honour of the veteran socialist and labour leader, who died on October 12, 2025, after being hit by a speeding driver on the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria praised Aremson’s lifelong dedication to justice, workers’ rights, and social change, saying he was “a rare gem who always stood firmly for what he believed was right.”

He noted that tributes have been pouring in from comrades and colleagues on a WhatsApp group they both belonged to, a reflection of Aremson’s enduring impact and respect within the activist community.

Falana also urged fellow activists to keep Aremson’s dreams alive by building strong movements that would continue his fight for fairness and equality.

According to the burial arrangements announced by the Joint Action Front (JAF), comrades and associates will gather at Aremson’s residence on Wednesday night for a candlelight procession and vigil in his honour.

On Thursday, October 23rd, his body will lie in state at his residence from 7:00 a.m., followed by funeral orations and family tributes at 10:00 a.m. His remains will then be laid to rest afterward.

Born in 1960, Comrade Abiodun Aremu dedicated his entire life to the struggle for a just and equitable society.

He was a co-founder and secretary of the Joint Action Front (JAF), and he played a key role in uniting labour and civil society groups for social justice and democracy.

Until his death, he remained a voice for the oppressed and a tireless advocate of people-oriented governance.

His passing marks the end of an era for Nigeria’s progressive movement, but his ideals and legacy continue to inspire the struggle for a better nation.
