The planned wedding between two popular Kano-based TikTok content creators, Idris Mai Wushirya and Basira ‘Yar Guda, has been cancelled by the Kano State Hisbah Board.

The board said it found that the supposed relationship between the two was not real but a plan to avoid legal punishment for their past actions.

According to Dr. Mujahedeen Aminuddeen, Deputy Commander of Hisbah, an investigation showed that both TikTokers were not sincere about getting married.

“We discovered that the proposed marriage was not genuine but meant to escape legal issues. So, we cancelled it to prevent future problems,” he said.

He added that although both had taken blood tests to check medical compatibility, the process was stopped.

The matter will now go back to court if it is not resolved.

Earlier, Magistrate Halima Wali of a Kano court had postponed judgment on a case of immoral conduct filed against the pair by the Kano State Censorship Board.

The charges came after a controversial video appeared on Wushirya’s social media page.

The court had referred the couple to the Hisbah Board to arrange a proper Islamic wedding after they both claimed in court that they were in love and planning to marry.

The court gave the board 60 days to organize the wedding and report back if it didn’t happen.

However, this court action caused public criticism, as many believed it was forcing the two into marriage.

Reacting to this, Baba Jibo, spokesperson for the Kano State Judiciary, said the public misunderstood the court’s decision.

“The court never ordered a forced marriage,” he explained. “It only allowed them time to marry since they both claimed they loved each other.”

He also stated that Basira Yar Guda told the court she would only marry Idris if he provided his own house, not a rented one.

The court then paused its ruling to give them a chance to proceed with marriage under Islamic law.
