Daniel Bwala, Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Policy Communication, confirmed the meeting and said it will focus on claims of a “Christian genocide.”
Bwala’s comment followed Trump’s recent accusation that the Nigerian government has failed to protect Christians from violent attacks.
On his social media page, Bwala wrote that both Tinubu and Trump share a common goal to fight terrorism and insurgency around the world.
Trump had earlier threatened military action against Nigeria, saying he wanted to eliminate terrorists killing Christians.
He also warned that the U.S. could stop giving aid to Nigeria.
Bwala explained that Trump had supported Nigeria in the past by approving arms sales, which Tinubu’s government has used in its fight against terrorism.
He added that both leaders are committed to ending all forms of violence and promoting peace.
