The protesters, chanting solidarity songs, demanded that the National Working Committee (NWC) under Umar Damagum vacate the secretariat immediately.

A protest broke out on Monday at the PDP national secretariat, Wadata Plaza, Abuja, as supporters of the faction led by acting National Chairman Mohammed Abdulrahman stormed the party headquarters.

The protesters, chanting solidarity songs, demanded that the National Working Committee (NWC) under Umar Damagum vacate the secretariat immediately.

Last week, Abdulrahman was appointed acting national chairman amid rising tensions in the party, which escalated following the suspension of the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade, for one month.

Meanwhile, the Wike-aligned faction had earlier gathered at another Abuja venue and announced the suspension of the Damagum-led NWC. The protesters accused the NWC of mismanaging party affairs and vowed to reclaim control of the secretariat for the Abdulrahman-led faction.

Security operatives were deployed to maintain order as both factions struggled for control. The Abdulrahman faction has now taken over the National Chairman’s office.

Speaking to journalists, Abdulrahman promised to unite and reposition the party ahead of the next general election, pledging to work diligently for PDP’s progress.

“We are ready to work in the interest of our dear party,” he said.
