The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has discovered a new kind of cannabis known as “California Loud” in Lagos State.
This discovery comes after the agency recently uncovered a secret lab in Ajao Estate, Isolo, where a strong synthetic drug called Colorado was being made.
A 30-year-old man, Stephen Imoh, was arrested after months of investigation and surveillance.
NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, revealed the new finding during an interview on TVC News.
He explained that Loud is a very strong type of cannabis that gives users a more powerful high than regular ones, which makes it attractive to many young people.
He said, “We have found a new strain coming into Lagos called California Loud. It’s a big challenge, and everyone families, communities, and society needs to be involved in tackling it.”
Talking about the earlier discovery of the Colorado lab, Babafemi warned that the synthetic drug is highly dangerous because it is made by mixing chemicals with THC, the active substance in cannabis.
He added that the suspect already showed signs of chemical burns and skin damage caused by his contact with the harmful substances used during production.
Despite many arrests and raids, drug abuse and trafficking remain serious problems in Nigeria. NDLEA Chairman, Brigadier General Mohamed Buba
Marwa (retd.), has vowed to keep pursuing drug traffickers and make sure they lose all illegal profits and assets gained from drug deals.
