Nigerian teenager rescued from human traffickers in Ghana

A 15-year-old Nigerian girl has been rescued from human traffickers in Ghana, where she was forced into prostitution and became pregnant.
The victim was lured from Enugu, Nigeria, with a promise of a cleaning job, but was handed over to Joy Ogbonna, who confined her in a room and forced her into sex work in Tarkwa, Ghana.
The rescue operation was carried out by the Western Central Regional Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Ghana Police Service, following a report from the victim’s father, Ogbonno Onuigbo, who had declared his daughter missing in October 2025. The victim managed to contact her father on October 24, 2025, revealing her situation, and with the help of a passerby, she was rescued.
25-year-old Joy Ogbonna was arrested at Aboso near Tarkwa on November 3, 2025.
Medical reports confirmed the victim was five weeks pregnant.
The alleged accomplice, Golden Blessing, believed to be hiding in Nigeria, is still at large.
The Ghana Police Service has commended the public for their support and reaffirmed its commitment to fighting human trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals.
