President Bola Tinubu has paid glowing tribute to renowned journalist, author, and former presidential adviser, Dr Reuben Abati, as he marks his 60th birthday on 7 November 2025.
In a statement from the State House, the President described Dr Abati as a “public intellectual, author, columnist, law graduate and broadcaster” who has “distinguished himself wherever he has traversed”.
President Tinubu highlighted Abati’s exceptional career, recalling his early days in academia as a Graduate Assistant, his leadership as Chairman of the Editorial Board of The Guardian, and his current role as a respected television anchor.
“His insightful articles, regular interventions and television analyses have continued to enlighten and inspire,” the President said, commending Dr Abati for his “service to Nigeria as Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to former President Goodluck Jonathan, as well as his outstanding contributions to the media.”

The President also congratulated Dr Abati—whom he fondly called “Rubi Rubi”—on the presentation of three new books to mark the milestone birthday: Portraits: People, Politics and Society, A Love Letter and Other Stories, and How Goodluck Jonathan Became President.
Joining family members, friends, and the wider media community in celebration, President Tinubu extended his best wishes to the veteran journalist.
“On this occasion of Abati’s 60th birthday, I pray that Almighty God grant him a longer life, good health, and the inspiration to continue serving the nation and humanity,” he said.
