We are now engaging all communities through what we call the ‘all-community approach’ to address insecurity,” Egbetokun said. “Security cannot be provided in silos. There must be synergy among all security agencies and communities across Nigeria. To secure this nation, we must work together, trust one another, and reject fake news.”

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has emphasised that Nigeria’s security agencies have fully adopted an “all-of-society” approach to combating banditry and other security threats facing the country.

Egbetokun made this known on Thursday while addressing journalists at the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja, during the foundation-laying ceremony for a new multi-purpose police conference centre.

According to the police chief, effective security cannot be achieved in isolation, noting that cooperation between security institutions and local communities remains crucial to overcoming the nation’s challenges.

“We are now engaging all communities through what we call the ‘all-community approach’ to address insecurity,” Egbetokun said.
“Security cannot be provided in silos. There must be synergy among all security agencies and communities across Nigeria. To secure this nation, we must work together, trust one another, and reject fake news.”

He cautioned against the spread of misinformation about security institutions, saying such acts weaken the morale of personnel who risk their lives to keep citizens safe.

“When people spread falsehoods about those providing security, they undermine national resolve. We must stay truthful and support the agencies that protect us,” he added.

The IGP also assured Nigerians that the police were well-prepared to ensure a peaceful and incident-free festive season.

“Preparations for the yuletide began months ago. All our commands have been directed to implement robust security measures to guarantee a safe and joyous celebration for everyone,” he said.

Egbetokun commended Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, for initiating the construction of the new conference centre, describing it as a milestone in the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing reforms.

“Today’s foundation-laying is symbolic — we are not only building a structure but also reinforcing a vision of professionalism, discipline and excellence within the Force,” he stated.
“Lagos occupies a unique position in our operational framework. As a megacity, it reflects the complexity of Nigeria’s wider security landscape. Policing in Lagos has long served as a model for the rest of the country.”

Egbetokun urged other police commissioners nationwide to emulate the Lagos initiative, stressing that infrastructure development and innovation are key to creating a more efficient, people-centred police service.
