Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Chief Benjamin Kalu, has said that the Igbo people will not stay away from national politics in 2027.
He said this while launching the Renewed Hope Initiative in Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area of Abia State.
Kalu explained that those who want development must be part of the government at the centre.
According to him, “Only those at the centre know when issues of development are discussed.”
He urged Abia people to join the ruling party so they won’t be left behind when other states are benefiting from federal projects.
Kalu praised President Bola Tinubu for improving roads and other infrastructure in the South-East and for appointing people from the region into key government positions.
He said:
“Igbo will not sit on the fence in 2027. We must take part in national politics. When you stay outside, decisions are made without you. Abia people should not remain behind while other states move forward.”
Kalu mentioned that Enugu, Ebonyi, Imo, Akwa Ibom, Rivers, and Taraba states have already joined the ruling party, while Abia should not be left behind. He urged Abia people to avoid isolating themselves in the Labour Party, saying:
“Let the promoters of the Labour Party test their popularity in their own states, not in Abia.”
He added that President Tinubu would soon empower 1,000 members of the Renewed Hope Initiative in each of the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State.
Kalu called on the people to continue supporting the President so that more development and appointments can come to the South-East.
Earlier, the coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative in Osisioma Ngwa, Chief Iheanacho Ogunka, promised full support for President Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.
He praised both the President and the Deputy Speaker for bringing development and political appointments to the area.
Former Osisioma Ngwa council chairman, Chief Benjamin Iheyinna, said that some of Tinubu’s projects were being wrongly credited to the opposition. He urged Kalu to make sure such misrepresentation stops.
